We’ve all got layers upon layers of “issues.” Addiction, lack of trust, rage, unruly fears. But these layers are merely effects of an emptiness felt deep inside. Our job is to locate this core of darkness, especially in the days leading up to the New Year.
We are so involved in the material world that our emptiness feels like it needs a physical fix. We feel alone so we seek out company. We need attention so we hurt others. We get angry so we lash out.
But why do we need attention? Is it because we feel worthless?
Why are we alone? Is it because we don’t trust anyone?
Why are we angry? Is it because we’re afraid of getting hurt?
It’s up to each one of us to drill down into the black hole we need filled up this year. Spend some time today thinking about this. And know that however big the pain, there is an equal amount of joy and liberation waiting for you just behind it.
