On Thursday I received an email. I won’t say the name of the person. This woman said she had been studying Kabbalah for almost 3 years. She was a single, divorced mother of an 8-year-old named Jake.

She said, “He wears his red string proudly, and when asked what it means, he gives a detailed description to whoever is asking–’I have been working hard to let the Light shine through.’ There is one book we are missing that we find is key to our learning experience. That book is the Zohar. We find that every book suggests we read the Zohar. The problem is we cannot afford the Zohar. I have searched sites, and cannot find one that is affordable. I was wondering if you can help me.”

All of us know we have the scholarship program. Every month thousands of people are studying Kabbalah through the program. We emailed this woman on Thursday, saying “We will send you a set of Zohar.”

Then she sent a second email: “I received an email that stated I would receive a complimentary copy of the English Zohar. I was sitting at my desk at work and began to cry. I hope that I do not sound like I am rambling, but I am full of excitement and needed to let you know.”

I thought as I read both emails, and I started crying. For most of you who know me, that’s not a big deal. But one of the things that I realized yesterday–and I was talking to Monica about this–How many people in the Centre who have a Zohar have the appreciation that this woman and her son have? The reality is, because it came so easy, we probably don’t have the appreciation.
