We know that the Zohar speaks at length about Yom Kippur being the day we connect to the realm of Binah, our supernal mother. The one physical equivalent we have is the power of the mikveh. The mikveh is a body of water, built to certain requirements. To connect to Binah, we immerse ourselves in that water. By immersing ourselves in the water of a mikveh, we can take off everything of a negative nature that is attached to us. If even one hair stays out of the water, the negativity can stay attached. Only if the person is completely immersed must the negative be released.

The beauty of this day is that it is 25 hours in which we have the opportunity to completely immerse ourselves in the Light of Binah. It’s like a mikveh, an immersion that can completely remove any attachments of negativity.

In the connection, we say this day has the power to remove any darkness we created this year. But only if we completely immerse ourselves in this day, if our desire during these 25 hours is to be completely immersed. If one piece of us is not immersed, there is still a place negativity can attach itself.

This day, the highest day of the year, provides the opportunity for every single person to remove all that is negative. It is there, if we are willing to immerse ourselves. That is why we do not connect to the physical world. Our desire and consciousness, our constant meditation, is to be completely immersed in the Light of Binah. We can remove negativity from this year and from previous incarnations.

It’s an amazing gift that only comes once a year. This day has the power to literally cleanse us from all negativity. But the one way in is to be completely immersed. To have the consciousness that, in these 25 hours, I want the Light of Binah to completely envelope me. I want to be immersed constantly in this Light and all the negativity will be removed.
